House Breaking For The New Dog Owner

Getting a new puppy is always a fun time for a pet owner. Puppies are so cute and adorable that everyone loves them. They quickly become part of the family and everyone loves the playing, the curiosity and the sweet cuddliness but nobody likes it when they do their duty in the house. Puppy potty training is probably the most difficult and likely the only real problem associated with owning a new puppy but if you are going to be a happy dog owner you will need to make sure that your puppy house training is efficiently done.
You will need to work closely with and have patience with your new puppy when it comes to housetraining. A puppy is still just a baby and a puppy does not have the comprehension level yet to know what you want him to do. It will be an easier job to complete your puppy house training if you are patient and loving with your puppy. Even though it is disappointing when your puppy has an accident in the house if you are impatient and express anger your puppy housetraining will take more time.
At the beginning you may need to take your puppy out to potty as often as 2 to 3 times in an hour. That may sound like a lot but a little puppy does not yet comprehend how to control himself and the active playing that most puppies do creates urine. Nighttime may be better as a relaxed puppy will not need to go out as often. Do not wake a sleeping puppy just to go out to potty but rather just make sure and take him out as soon as you can after he awakens.
The most crucial part to puppy house training is to be consistent. Use the same commands, take him to the same potty place and give him the same praise and treats. Your puppy will learn quickly if you consistently do things the same way but mix anything up and he will get confused. Puppies respond well to consistency.
As you are housetraining your puppy you will need to make sure that the experience is as positive as possible for your puppy. If he ever has any fear of your reactions or if he ever feels fear that he is doing something wrong your potty training efforts will take longer. Your puppy wants to please you and if he does not know how to do that it will take longer for him to learn about potty training.
Using a crate will help you in your puppy house training when have to leave your puppy at home. Dogs naturally try to keep their own space clean so a crate will help your puppy to learn how to control himself. Dogs are also natural den animals so they like having a small home of their own.
Consistency is the most crucial aspect of puppy house training. Make sure that you use a consistent command and take him to the same spot every time so that there is no confusion for him. Making the experience a positive one for him will also help him to learn faster and you will be finished with your puppy house training earlier.
Puppy house training is the most important aspect of owning a new puppy and you can train your puppy in just a few short weeks if you are consistent and positive about the training. You will then be able to enjoy your puppy more as he gets bigger and you will never have to concern yourself with accidents in the house again.
