Selecting Quality Dog Houses

Often people have a hard time determining the right kind of dog house for their dog. The size of your dog is the first thing you will need to know. This will make getting the proper size dog house possible. There will be several things to look at when picking the ideal dog house for your dog.

If your dog will be living outdoors full-time the first thing you will want to consider your local climate. If your home is in a place where the temperatures drop significantly you might want to think about getting a heated dog house. If that is out of your price range you definitely want to get one that is waterproof and insulated and then add a heated dog bed or pad. Buy a heated pad or bed designed for dogs as ones made for humans can overheat your dog. Heated dog beds are built to resist your dogs chewing and operate at a low voltage for added safety.

You will have a natural flea repellant if you choose a dog bog with stuffing made from cedar chips. If your local climate is more prone to heat than cold you want a dog house that will help keep your dog cool. Look for one with plenty of ventilation and place it in an area of your yard where it will be in shade most of the day. There are air conditioned dog houses available for those dogs that have a difficult time in the heat.

Select a large dog house that gives your dog plenty of room to lay down and turn around but not so much room that it will never be warm enough. When it comes to dog houses bigger is not better. There are many different materials used to make dog houses among the most popular are wood, plastic, PVC, and galvanized steel. You can buy a dog house pre-assembled or one that needs to be built.

I remember building my first dog house. It was a lot of fun and the dogs loved it.
I even made it with swinging doors like a saloon.
It was so big I could get inside of it…..lol

Now that they are gone, my cats have taken over, but thats ok.
