What Kind Of Dog Would You Like To Choose?

So, you’re thinking about getting a pet dog to bring home, eh? Well, in choosing breed of dog, you also need to consider a lot of things like what kind of dog is best when you have kids, what kind of dog breed is best when you are living in a very rough neighborhood. If you’re the extrovert type, maybe you would like showing off your Shih Tzu or Pekingese to your circle of friends. And of course, budget is also a big factor to consider. If you’re hard up but you still want a pet dog, go for the little ones. Maybe a Chihuahua or a Jack Russell Terrier might do. You don’t want to spend a lot of hundred dollars of dog food to a 200-lb. St. Bernard, right, while your family is dying of hunger, right? That is why, it’s important that you should think about it a couple more time after thinking about it a couple of time.

But if you just rely on your personal information or knowledge in choosing dog breed, you can end up choosing not at all. You need a guide that will teach you how to exactly select the right pet dog for you and your family. Sometimes, what you can choose might be very expensive for you or you might choose a dog breed that is not good for your health. A neighbor told his friends that his sister called up and informed him that they decided to sell of their German Shepherd as per advise by her doctor. She was struck with allergy and she keeps on sneezing and sneezing until her nose bled and all because of the hair of the dog.

“So, what’s the best dog breed for me?”, you might ponder. As what have been said, it all depends on many factors and to help you out, better go to this site called “choosing-a-dog-breed dot com” and get a copy of this guide called “Choosing The Right Dog Breed”.

I’ve got 3 dogs of my own (bought them all separately). One is a Shepard-Pit mix named Abbey, one’s a Rat Terrier named Bella, and the other is a Chihuahua (he’s the newest addition), named Romeo. Bella and Romeo get along great. They love to wrestle, play, eat, sleep, cuddle, and do everything together. They even wear matching outfits! Abbey wants to play with the little ones, but she’s a big clumsy goon. We have to supervise their interaction carefully some no one gets hurt.

Don’t forget to also consider the compatibility of new dogs with other pets you may have in your home.

It is so critical to give it serious consideration. We got a dog that is mixed, but from a breed that was used to hunt and dig. So the dog kept digging and escaping under the fence. Eventually we had to give it away.

Selecting the right breed is definitely important, as choosing the wrong breed can cause all kinds of problems.

  7. Dave @ Best Pet Insurance on August 29th, 2009 6:14 pm

I would add that meeting the dog’s mother, father, breeders and the type of home they’re being brought up in are also critical areas to explore before you make your final decision. I grew up with Scottish terriers, and while they were terrific, the next puppy after that was living in a very dank basement with his siblings. I mentioned this to my parents but they were unconcerned, since the breeder had his AKC registration. Bad move on their parts, since the dog had major behavioral problems down the road, and eventually we had to put him down. It was very sad, but the next dog we got we knew the breeders personally, as well as his mother. That dog was the greatest dog in my life (so far), an awesome Golden – still miss him today, and that was over 20 years ago.

I think once you have found the breed of dog that you feel is perfect for you, visit your local rescue center. There are hundres of dogs out there that are in need of a loving home. I would urge anyone to help one of them before considering contacting breeders.

For those with children, temperament is everything. Great family dogs are those gentle in nature like the Golden Retriever or Labrador Retriever. These are the obvious and most popular choices for family dogs. If you are looking for a more original breed, your family may love the Newfoundland. This is a large, sluggish water loving dog. However, what about the family members who are allergic to most furry friends?

If you have long job hours or spend a lot of time out of the house you will probably need a dog that requires little attention and is more self maintained such as a Shih Tzu. If you can sacrifice spending time at home and are willing to work with your dog then you can get a more attention craving breed like a rottweiler.

I think the most important factor in choosing a dog should be considering the children and people that the dog will be around. A beagle is a very dog to work with young children, and was in fact my first dog. Also dog allergies are another factor, because you may not be aware that you have allergies until you’re actually living with them.

I have 3 dogs and never considered picking them because they were a specific breed, but instead choose to rescue them because they needed a good home. My 1st dog is a Schnauzer mix – she is the Queen. Schnauzer are extremely smart. My 2nd is a Lhasa Apso mix – he is the king – he is playful and funny and loves giving kisses. My 3rd dog is a Corgi – she is the Princess – loyal to a T but very bossy.

Each of my dogs brings something unique and special to our home not only based on breed but temperament and personality.

I think many people buy dogs because they think it would be a cool idea – it is only once they have the dog that they realise what hard work is involved. My last dog was a beagle who was a bit neurotic. My son brought him home from a farm and we think he (the beagle) wasn’t ready to leave his mommy. We had him for almost 11 years, until he got sick, and he always had trouble with seperation anxiety. He also got fat because he would eat too much. Even with all his little issues, he was a very loving dog and very funny. We miss him.

Be careful when you are choosing a dog that will be with you for 10 to 15 years.

I’d go with either a Siberian Husky or German Sheppard. I had a Husky and it was the most lovable dog ever. And german sheppards are just awesome

I had a collie when I was younger. Really fantastic dog. Loyal and friendly. Used to round up children which was quite funny.

I have a basenji and a labrador. The former is a saint, and the latter is a total riot. Labs do need plenty of space, thank god for my lawn.

It depends on a lot of things, but Yorkshire terriers are good little dogs and seem to work for many people’s ways of life.

Hi, when it comes to the choice of breeding, it’s really difficult to choose the quality. It is because its particular breed has its own quality.

I have never owned anything that wasn’t a mutt. =( But if I had my choice, although I’m a guy, I would get something small and cute. A Pomeranian or something like that. I like cute, fluffy, playful dogs!

  106. Robert @what dogs dream about on August 11th, 2010 4:11 pm

    I agree with you.

I Have 3 dogs now. A German Sheppard, a Puppy boxer, and a duschound. They are lovely dogs, and have alot of energy. We have actually started training them, sothat they can be ready when my baby is born early september.
We like big dogs, but thought a little duschound would be nice to keep the other to on their toes.

    so far so good. :)

It’s not really easy to choose the type of dogs for your pet. If you wanted a dog who retrieves balls and sticks, but your dog never fetches anything, a terrier probably wasn’t the right dog for you.

  108. Jimmy - Travel guy on August 15th, 2010 10:55 am

A Jack Russell terrier would be nice, but it requires so much exercise. It might be good after all, less time in front of the computer and I would get some training as well.

I ended with both a small dog and a big one :) One yorkie and one Pitbull which the pitbull is not aggressive at all and it’s my favorite of the 2 lol. But your right about considering the thoughts you mentioned in your blog about food cost and the neighborhood you live in.

I like Hound Dogs. Hound Dogs have been bred to chase (or hound) a quarry by sight or smell, or a combination of both senses. Sighthounds have exceptional eyesight, combined with the speed and stamina necessary to catch the intended prey once seen, typical examples being the Greyhound and the Whippet. Hounds which rely strongly on the sense of smell to follow the trail of a prey, such as the Bloodhound, quite literally follow their noses, speed and eyesight is of less importance.

Dog is useful especially when there is person they are not knowing and friendly to the people, we all know dog needs a friend to be playing with. Dog enjoying by playing around at your home, but most of all dog it becomes happy when you go out and playing and eating.

I had 2 labs when my kids were growing up and they are very loving to the kids and very protective of them. Also they are very territorial and don’t like other dogs in their yards. I broke up many fights with my lab and other dogs coming in our yard. They are a great pet though.

Our first dog was a kelpie/blue heeler cross. He was a lovely dog but became too strong for any of us to handle even with training so we had to give him away as we had little children then and were afraid of leaving him alone with them. A pity but it is best to take your time and choose the right dog.

I’ve always loved Dobermans. I still do but nothing beats a Golden Retriever for a family dog.

Before going to buy a good breed that suits to you, you need to answer so many questions to yourself like How big is it? How big is the yard? Do you have children? Are you out of the home quite a lot? Are you allergic to some breeds? What do you expect from the dog etc? All of these questions need answering and only then can you begin our search for the perfect dog breed.

  121. Printer Ink Toner Cartridge on January 20th, 2011 1:48 am

Yea, I have 3 breeds of pet dog named Rocky, Tommy and Pinky. They are central Asian Shepherds, English Mastiff and Pug respectively. I find all my dog breeds to be pretty and playful as well. So it is not necessary to debate which dog breed is the best. The best breeds are the outcome of how we train, breed and nurture our dogs in my view. Practicing regular dog exercises, feeding organic food stuffs and avoiding preservative foods and protecting the pet dogs from harmful pests and insects are indispensable than any other things. Hope you got me!
