Boxer Puppy Training for Dummies

If you would like to have a very protective, affectionate and intelligent family dog, then a boxer would be a really good choice. If boxer puppy training is started at a young age, your dog stands a great chance of reaching his full potential. Having a pet boxer that is well trained and socialized will make your family very happy.

A boxer, unlike some dogs, does very well with children and is a very social dog that will bond closely with the entire family. They love nothing better than being right in the middle of the family activities with their energetic, playful temperaments.

They really do not like being left alone and could end up chewing or digging or even begin to develop separation anxiety if they are bored or lonely or feel neglected.

One thing that is critical to do in order for your boxer puppy to get socialized is to introduce him to different types of environments, people and dogs. In order for him to trust you and respond to training, you will need to establish yourself as the Alpha dog.

Boxers originated from crossing the English Bulldog with the German Bullenbeisser. Originally they were bred for large game hunting. Boxers have lots of energy, are very athletic, and thrive on lots of exercise social interaction, and obedience training. Boxers do well as guard dogs. They are blessed with very acute hearing and stay alert to their surroundings. They do the work of a guide or service dog very well.

One of the main reasons that it is critical to start boxer puppy training early is due to the fact that boxers have long puppy life cycles. Training will provide your boxer puppy with much needed guidance and a sense of boundaries which will enable him to thrive in a family setting. Dog training will keep your puppy physically and mentally stimulated.

Boxers generally thrive on training, due to the fact that these intelligent dogs love to please their masters and learn new things. When your dog performs the desired behavior, use positive reinforcement by rewarding him with lots of praise and treats.

Boxer puppies can sometimes be quite strong willed or stubborn. They may also tend to get quite energetic, so be prepared to stay the course with your boxer puppy training and be very patient. You will end up with a very well adjusted boxer if you take care to thoroughly socialize and train your puppy. By being patient and consistent as well as repetitious in your training, your boxer puppy will start to learn and develop his confidence and trust in you.

Tips To Help You In Your Boxer Training

Boxers learn quickly and it won’t take long at all for them to learn basic obedience commands like fetch, stay, come and sit. Being the great athletes that they are, boxers love dog sports such as agility training and flyball. Another thing boxers do well at is house training.

Due to the fact that boxer puppies are extremely energetic, leash training your puppy will probably be one of the main challenges to your boxer puppy training. Boxers grow up to be very powerful, large dogs so you need to start leash training when he is still a puppy so you don’t end up getting pulled all across the neighborhood.

Boxers tend to be jumpers and have a tendency to jump on people. Jumping is a natural tendency for boxers when they become excited. Using the obedience commands you have trained your boxer in should help in this area.

Being dedicated and having a lot of patience is what is needed for boxer puppy training. You must have enough patience and energy to see a very energetic dog through to the end of the dog training process. All of your hard work should pay off and result in your family ending up with a very fun loving, loyal, affectionate well trained dog to enjoy.

    Greetings,

I enjoy the prospect of training a boxer puppy because they are such family orientated pets.

Somehow they remind me of the Weimaraner, to the extent of their energy and family attachment.

As with all dogs, boxers can be trained very well, bet, when we get them young.

I enjoyed reading your article, it is very informative and to the point. No fluff.

How I really wish to have a boxer puppy! They are so lovable and cute. I just hope they can stay as puppies that way for the rest of their lives so they can still be cute as they can be 5 or 8 years from now! LOL! Thanks for making a word about this guide. Thanks!
