If you are interested in clicker training for dogs then you are looking at one of the more useful dog training techniques. It’s popularity not only stems from the fact that it’s not painful to the dog, but in the fact that it’s powerfully effective. Good behavior is rewarded using behavioral psychology as the motivation. This method of training involves ‘marking’ the good behavior with a click from the clicker, enabling the dog to know it’s done something good and will receive a treat .

FOR MORE GREAT TIPS AND ADVICE ON DOG TRAINING METHODS

The clicker method when coupled with the treat for correct behavior is a humane way to train dogs and other animals. The animal is not harmed or shouted at or given pain in any way. Its astonishing really, how much your dog wants to please you. Dog training involves communication with your pet and this can sometimes prove difficult. The clicker method of dog training seems to clarify that for your dog.

‘Operant conditioning is the term used. It basically means that the dog intentionally does something so as to bring about the desired ending. Dogs tend to associate people, places, and events or objects with a pleasurable or un-pleasurable grading system. So the more they’re associated with an event in a pleasurable sense, then the more they associate that event in a favorable light. Its a manner of conditioning.

If the dog learns that it is rewarded for good behavior then it will repeat it. This conditioning is how the dog is trained. The ‘operant’ conditioning will produce behavior that’s purposeful, while the classic type of conditioning produces behavior that’s habitual. When the two come together you get a potent form of training.

Using the clicker rather than your own vioce gives the training an element of consitency. The clicker always sounds the same whereas the human voice can change in pitch.the dog learns to associate the sound of the clicker with good behavior and reward. Its all down to communication.

FOR MORE GREAT TIPS AND ADVICE ON DOG TRAINING METHODS

There are some animals that you would think are pretty hard to trainsuch as dolphins but the clicker method has been used with dolphins to great effect. From cats and leopards, to birds and rabbits, this method has been very successful.

You should commence the click whilst the dog is carrying out the behavior you want.Don’t wait until he has finished. Give a click and a treat before the behavior and after the behavior is complete. You should click when your dog does something you would like him to repeat, that way you reinforce the message. Always use the same click but you can give different types of treats for different behavior.

Using clicker training for dogs can enable you to communicate with your dog in a positive way that you weren’t able to do before. Your dog will begin to behave well as he realises thathe gets a reward. Punishing bad behavior can sometimes produce even more bad behavior, even though it may curb the selected bad behavior to a point. The use of positive reinforcement will lead to more positive behavior.
